Why ECE Soy Candles?

Why ECE Candles 100% Soy Candle?

Our handcrafted candles are made with premium 100% soy wax. We use the finest, quality fragrance oils and essential oil combinations that yield robust aromas. Our candles contain no paraffin wax, carrier oils or phthalates. We use safe plant-based colorants and lead-free cotton wicks. We believe in providing the most natural eco-friendly and fragrant candles for our customers.

What is the difference between paraffin and soy wax?

Paraffin wax is a petroleum by-product created when crude oil is refined into gasoline. It produces potential harmful carcinogens and when burned, paraffin leaves a black soot residue on the surrounding furnishing and walls.

Soy wax is made from a natural renewable resource that is grown in the USA, soy beans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. Soy wax burns cleaner, slower, longer and does not produce the toxins that paraffin emits. All of which, gives you a eco-friendly environment and biodegradable product.

Why does my soy candle look differently than a paraffin candle?

There are many characteristics of natural soy candles you may notice. You may notice that your candle shows a little white color or fading. This is called frosting and it is a natural appearance of soy candles. Frosting does not affect the scent or the burning properties of your candle. To minimize frosting, keep your soy candle out of direct sunlight and in a cool place.

You may also notice that your soy candle accumulates moisture on top of the candle (sweating). This is due to temperature changes and will not affect your candle. The moisture is excess oils and can be wiped away with a paper towel before burning your candle.

You may have rough candle tops after burning and re-solidifying which is also natural for soy candles and will not affect your candle in any way.

How do I burn my soy candles from ECE Candles?

It is good to know that a soy candle has a memory. How you burn a soy candle the first time will determine if you get the full benefit of your candle. You should allow your candle to achieve a full melt pool the very first time you burn the candle to prevent tunneling.

To achieve the best possible burn, we recommend that you trim your wick to 1/4 inch each and every time you burn your candle. You should burn your candle for a minimum of one hour for every inch of its diameter. Allow your candle to have a good melt pool which should be 1/4 to 3/8 inches. Too shallow of a melt pool will keep your candle from releasing the highest amount of fragrance into the room. Too deep, and your candle will burn too fast and hot.

Why does the wick look like a mushroom and smoke when I burn my candle?

The mushroom-like look is the result of carbon buildup. Itís distributing the fragrance oil through the wick and releasing the fragrance as it burns. If you have a mushroomed wick, put out the flame, let it cool, trim the wick to 1/4 inch and remove any wick pieces that has fallen into the candle. If you do not keep your wick trimmed, the flame may get too high, blacken and/or break the glass.

If your candle smokes and it is trimmed to a 1/4 inch, check for drafts. Ceiling fans, windows, heat/air vents or heavily used walkway or doorway can provide enough oxygen to cause the candle to smoke and produce a wild flame. Soy candles produce little to no soot when burned properly, but any candle will smoke and create soot if exposed to too much air. Again, put the candle out and stop the draft.

Why is there black soot around the top of the glass?

Although soy candles have significantly less soot than paraffin candles, soy candles are not soot-free. The black soot on the glass typically comes from wick issues. You will need to keep the wick trimmed and only burn the candle one hour for every inch of its diameter. Be sure to remove any wick trimmings or matches left in the candle. Black soot may also appear around the rim of the glass from tilting the candle when lighting the wick. Use a lighter with an extended nozzle instead of matches or small lighters.

Do you make pillar or votive candles?

No, our candles are made from 100% soy wax and do not keep its shape when burned. Soy is softer than paraffin waxes which can hold its shape while burning.
